Young Children's Music
Classes
performance opportunities
Back to
Top
Each
academic school year is
divided into four quarters:
Baroque, Classical, Romantic
and Contemporary.
Performance Parties,
scheduled at the end of each
quarter, are held in the
main room of the school
which accommodates a
Schimmel grand piano and two
Roland disc-driven digital
pianos. Parents are
invited to attend these
informal parties and are
warned they may or may not
have a chair! The
informality of the ‘party’
provides students an
opportunity to perform for
their peers and parents in a
non-threatening atmosphere.
In addition to experience
with performing before an
audience, there are three
primary benefits of this
quarterly studio event:
1) a quarterly short-term
goal. Even the younger
student can
understand around Halloween
that he/she will be playing
for friends and family
before Christmas. 2)
an opportunity to hear
peers. The Performance Party
provides the ideal
environment for non-verbal
communication of
accomplishment and
expectations, 3)
motivation and
socialization. Music
Works holds a
Holiday Open House Musicale
in December and annual
Spring Recitals
in March. The recitals are
held at the studio on
Bethany Home Road; the main
room of the academy can seat
60-70 people. Chairs are provided
at this more 'formal
recital'. The May
Performance Pizza Party is
an awards presentation.
Additional Performance
Options for Piano Students
In addition to the
performance events held at
Music Works, piano students
have other performance
opportunities. All of the
piano instructors at Music
Works Academy are members of
Phoenix Music Teachers
Association (PMTA)
and the
National Guild of Piano
Teachers (NGPT).
These two organizations
provide festivals,
adjudication opportunities,
ensembles and competitions
throughout the academic
school year. Refer to the
Performance Options
description of events open
to student enrollment.
Those students wishing to
enroll in these musical
activities complete a
Performance Options
Registration Form during
August/September for the
current academic school
year.
